Aetna announced today that Aida Levitan, Ph.D., has been named chairman of the Miami Advisory Council. Aetna formed the council in 2007 to better serve the South Florida Hispanic community, and recently expanded the scope of its activities to include outreach to Hispanic groups across the United States.

“Aetna has recognized the tremendous importance of reaching Hispanics with culturally relevant communications and community relations. Our council is a great example of their commitment to the Hispanic community.”

The council is comprised of nationally and locally recognized leaders from the community, as well as Aetna leaders. It includes some of Miami's most distinguished medical, business, religious and community leaders, each known for his or her expertise in understanding and addressing the needs of local consumers.

“I am honored to be selected as chairperson of this prestigious group,” said Levitan. “Aetna has recognized the tremendous importance of reaching Hispanics with culturally relevant communications and community relations. Our council is a great example of their commitment to the Hispanic community.”

The Miami Advisory Council members recently began offering Aetna a broader perspective on Hispanic groups across the country. While each market possesses its own cultural and economic dynamics, companies such as Aetna need to appreciate similarities that exist among Spanish-speaking people across the United States.

“The Miami Advisory Council has provided us with invaluable community insight,” said Kevin Enterlein, president of Aetna’s South Florida and Orlando markets. “Dr. Levitan’s counsel is helping Aetna gain a deeper understanding of the people and businesses we serve in South Florida. We also thank Charlie Garcia for his exceptional leadership during his two-year term as the council’s chairman.”

Levitan is president of The Levitan Group, a firm that provides community relations consulting services to national and international companies and organizations such as the National Hispana Leadership Institute and the Port of Bilbao. She is former president of Levitan & Palencia, a marketing communications company, and former vice chairperson and chief communications officer of Bromley Communications.

The senior-level advisory council members serve one-year terms and are paid an annual stipend. They provide increased knowledge and connections to the Hispanic community that allows Aetna to provide culturally focused products and networks to constituents in South Florida.
