UnitedHealthcare, a UnitedHealth Group company, has earned a place on the 12th annual LATINA Style 50, a survey by LATINA Style Magazine of the 50 best companies for Latinas to work for in the United States.

The LATINA Style 50, according to the magazine, “has become the most prestigious analysis of corporate America’s efforts for promoting diversity and providing career advancement opportunities for Hispanic women.” Companies that are considered for listing on the LATINA Style 50 are evaluated based on their percentage of Latina employees and Latinas in senior management positions as well as employee-benefit programs.

UnitedHealthcare was one of more than 800 U.S. corporations that were evaluated by the magazine for inclusion in this year’s list. The article announcing the winners appears in the August 2009 issue.

The magazine will honor UnitedHealthcare and the other LATINA Style 50 companies Feb. 4, 2010, during LATINA Style’s Diversity Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C., and will also include an exclusive awards reception at the White House.

Latinas comprise more than 80 percent of UnitedHealthcare’s Hispanic employees and more than 6 percent of UnitedHealthcare’s total work force.

“The LATINA Style 50 award shows that UnitedHealthcare is a good place to work for our nearly 2,500 Latino employees and that we can make a positive difference for our Latino/Hispanic customers who want access to quality, affordable health care,” said Russell Bennett, UnitedHealthcare’s vice president of Latino Health Solutions.

“Today, nearly 20 percent of our health plan customers are Latino. We believe our culturally diverse customers are best served by knowledgeable and experienced employees who understand their health care needs and cultural practices, and we are taking an innovative approach in developing culturally appropriate health services to improve the health and well-being of Latinos. We are honored that LATINA Style has recognized our commitment.”

UnitedHealthcare has developed far-reaching relationships with the Latino community and provides health and wellness information and unique educational programs tailored to meet the health care needs of Latinos. These include reader-friendly materials and brochures in Spanish and English and bilingual online educational programs, as well as Spanish-language versions of UnitedHealthcare’s disease management and health improvement programs.

In addition, UnitedHealthcare offers PlanBienSM, an innovative program that combines health benefit plans with unique services designed to enhance the health and well-being of Hispanics and their families.

UnitedHealthcare’s award-winning bilingual Web site, www.uhclatino.com, is a unique online resource for health care information specifically tailored to address the health care concerns of UnitedHealthcare’s growing Latino membership and the Latino community at large.

Recently, the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) awarded UnitedHealthcare the prestigious “Recognizing Innovation in Multicultural Health Care Award” for efforts to provide Spanish-preference Hispanic plan participants with personalized customer care services, including bilingual information and guidance about to best utilize their health care coverage benefits.
